Electrical System

Now that I have a decent engine I am going to try and improve the battery charging capabilities by adding a Sterling Power alternator regulator and a split battery voltage sensitive relay. With the addition of a 55 Watt solar panel I should have all bases covered. I'll install the isolators and test the system. If this is OK I'll add the VSR and test again. Then I'll attempt the alternator regulator, this looks tricky because the the alternator fitted is non-standard and the instructions are full of options.

The main electrical system is in and working. I haven't fitted the voltage regulator but I am waiting to see how the alternator settles down with charging both batteries simultaneously through the voltage sensing relay.

Self Steering

Louisa came with a Sea Feather self steering system, it is probably a mark 2 and while there weren't any instructions, it did appear that all of the parts were on-board.

It all went together fairly easily but one fitting was quite tight and the spares kit baffled us for a bit as there appeared to be double quantities of some parts. I managed to break the oar latch when I swung the oar down a bit too quickly but that should be fairly easy to fix and better to find out now than when I am out and about.

The self steering worked first go, a breezy SW'ly peaking at F7 and it held course on all points of sail. The adjustment is simple and it deploys and is retrieved easily. Very happy, now I need a name for her.
